The “Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers” Visitor’s Plaque, brought to you by Quicken Loans

after Korryn Gaines

I think we all should be remembered
Today, not just the ones who traded life to embroider another’s casket.
I think today is for remembering the soldiers who fought
Their only wars at home and whose battlefields were the bank,
The unemployment office, the housing authority building, the supermarket,
The hospital, the corner store.
Hoist flags for the fallen comrades who died protecting
Their families from their homeland and
Holiday the child soldiers armed with nothing but a
Comb, or a water pistol, or a cellphone, or a sock, or a verse,
Or their black balled voids, swinging in the night only visible in shimmers.
